Dawn City

I find myself often
in white noise, never as faded as it could be,
with myself, the shifting
centers of Los Angeles
wherever I park my car
choose to sit with the windows up_

The freeway raised between auto shops and self storage,
A Del Taco in the rose caul,
Photo labs and allergy clinics,
Parking signs and alternate routes,
Vertical pole shafts of placards and the slender punctuation of palms,
Abandoned shopping carts_

All swirl stop and arrange
around me as I look up from my notebook,
and pretend they have been there all along.
